Back from the trip....

Late on Monday, we got back from a long weekend trip up to Sister Bay in Door County. I haven't uploaded the pictures from my camera, but I thought that I'd start reflecting on the trip.

Actually publishing a post

It feels as though I've found my voice again, but I know I need to refine it's timbre and tone. Of late I've been writing draft after draft after draft of snippets of ideas and thoughts that warrant more exploration. Today, I decideed to challenge myself to go out into the world and just write a few words about what I saw. It's been something I've struggled with all weekend, which I think is part of my own deep uneasiness about society and the state of politics in the world today. Ahem...that can get me down another tangent. Today was the last day before I head back to work tomorrow and I needed to get on my bike and just experiece my city. Swan Creek Park bike ride

Just took a short ride today that turned into a bit of an adventure. Swan Creek Park is right by where I'm living these days. It's a wooded area that has lived several lives over the past 100 years. Initially tribal land with a salmon bearing creek through the canyon, Swan Creek Woods are now mostly owned by the city and county. The part of the park that I visited today is called the Lister Uplands. During World War II, this area was developed into housing for workers supporting the war effort. Over the years, the housing was converted into the public housing development Salishan. However the area around the Lister Uplands was razed, leaving just empty neighborhood streets. There have been iterations of plans for this land through the decades. Most recently, the city of Tacoma has proposed plans for outdoor classrooms, picnic spaces and perhaps even events. I would love if they provided access from the Southwest side of the park. The area below is quite steep.

Everyone is the "hero" in their own story

I came across this quote years ago and loved it so much that I emailed it to myself and came across it today when I was doing a long-overdue clean-up of my email inbox. Looking through all my old emails and correspondences was bittersweet, but finding this quote really helped me to put my own story into a better perspective. Didn't we all wish we were born with superpowers? Dreams have always been important to me. As a child, I recall having vivid dreams full of action and adventure. Dreams were where you were a hero, where you stood for what was right and saved the day. I always assumed that everyone saw themselves as hero into their own stories because who else could you root for?
